Poppy Flower Tutorial

I would like to share with you a tutorial on some Card stock Poppies I have been working on.
Very easy and fun to create.

A template link for the petals and center of this flower will be posted at the bottom of this post.

                                                  Products used
Card stock and Clear permanent glue

Cut 7 Petals, 1 Stamen and 1 Center from the template.

Spritz your petals with water, fold in half then roll them into a ball.

Let dry slightly, then gently unroll.

Beginning with your first petal layer.
Glue one end onto the other slightly overlapping your petals.

Using a total of 4 petals for your first layer.

Moving on the same way with your next 3 petals ,applying to your bottom 4 petal layer.

While your petals are drying, take your Stamen piece and slightly fringe the edges.
Roll your edges towards the center.

Gluing your center piece unto your stamen piece.

Add to the center of your flower.

That's it!

A little tip for you.
I like to apply my center to my poppy while my petals are a little damp. That gives me a little freedom to shape the petals as I would like them to appear.

Here you will find a template for your flower.

Thanks for stopping by my Craft World :)

How To...

This past week I spent some time just hopping around the Blogger World.
I came upon 2 tutorials that I knew I just had to try.

I thought I would share the links with you, just in case you had not discovered them yet.

The first one, is for the beautiful flowers seen in this  lo of my eldest Granddaughter.
(Yes, I know I spelled Nicaragua wrong : ) !

You may found the tutorial here courtesy of "Scrap Factory" .
There is a language translator there in case you need it.

The next is for the overly grunge and crumpled paper you will find here in the lo of my youngest Grand Daughter.

I have seen this technique on other layouts and loved the result, just not sure of a good way to go about achieving it.
I found this tutorial to be very helpful.
Thanks to "Scraps of Reflection" for posting this tutorial !

I also wanted to share my own tip with you today.
For my chipboard in the lo above, I used White Puffy Paint and a few drops of Alcohol Ink to achieve the desired color and texture I wanted to add to my chipboard.
No worries about adding the extra liquid to your Puffy Paint.
Works just fine!

Under the Harvest Moon

For the better part of the Month of September, I have been working on ATC's for a RAK Challenge hosted on the "Sisterhood of Scrap" Forum.

I received some very beautiful cards, created by a group of very talented and crafty ladies.
It was nice to be able to touch and see the different techniques and styles in 3 dimension rather than as a photograph.
Thank you so much ladies, I love and appreciate them all.

Thought I would share with you the ATC's I created for the swap.

"Under the Harvest Moon" Series 1-14

And one of her big Sister at the Pumpkin Farm near my home.

Thanks for stopping by  : )
If you get the chance, stop on back by in the next day or so.
I will have some details for you about a mini crop this coming Saturday.

Art Journal

You may have noticed a New Button on my sidebar, Creative Every Day.

A while back I purchased an Art Book with the intent to journal, sketch or just whatever.

Created a cover for it and designed the front, then froze!
Nothing like blank pages staring at you and no idea to moving on to the next step.

Browsing around the web I came across the Blog "Creative Everyday" and thought this is the perfect jump off point I needed.
I love the Artwork that this talented lady creates.

Though I don't submit my pages to the site. I still enjoy the creative prompts and follow along.

My goal is to use this journal to try different techniques and mediums together.
A way to expand my use of products and widen my horizon when it comes to my creative outlet.

This first page is inspired by the word "Life".

Growing up in an area, that is influenced on a daily basis, by the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Nation. I have always been intrigued by the Medicine Wheel and it's use in one's daily life.
Nothing fancy , just a little personal something for me to go to.

The second page in my Journal , sort of took a life of it's own.
Using only a Versa Mark Ink Pad and chalk.
The principal for this page is based on the game of looking at the clouds and finding an image.
Using chalk and a brush I let the images come forth from the page.
How surprised I was to find ( through my own eyes) what looked to be a young girl sitting on the edge of a cliff watching the sun set.
Using my chalk to bring out the image a little clearer.

This next page is influenced by the word "Fire" and a sketch created by AnnMaree a sister from the "Sisterhood of Scrap" Forum.
Using Gesso and a comb to add texture to my page. Covered over with first water color then Alcohol Ink.
The next step , I stamped with Versa Mark ,using one of my favorite leaf stamps in my collection. Then embossed with Ultra Thick Utee.
Proceeding next to masking my page with a tree silhouette and painting over the top with brown acrylic paint.
Transferring my photo onto canvas.

This page represents the stage I am at in my physical life.

Well, that is it for today , hope you will stop by and check out "Creative Everyday".

As always Thank You for stopping by "Welcome to My Craft World"

A Little of This and a Little of That

Hope all is well in your world.
Has been a very busy month of August for me her in My World.

First, I would like to introduce you all to my new Grand Daughter Sydney Elizabeth.
I know I may be partial but...isn't she the sweetest?
August 29 TH she made her arrival. All is well.

A Primitive Door Hanger I just finished up for the arrival of Fall.

A close up of the buttons. They were my G.G. Aunt Alice's. Perfect for any Primitive project!

A close up of the Sunflower.

Challenges I have been working on hosted by the Sisters of the Sisterhood of Scrap Forum for the month of August.

Summer Sizzle and Sketch Blog Challenges hosted by the Sisterhood of Scrap

Another sweet Grand Daughter of mine.

and another
My Aunt & Uncle when the got engaged.

Summer Sizzle Challenge/ Vintage Images are from old Sheet Music sized and turned to Black and white.

Summer Sizzle ABC Challenge/ tough one here... a list of products from A-Z to be used on One layout.

On the list was to use the Alphabet , I snuck mine in by adding them to my flowers.Hey, whatever works! Right?

Next is a little door hanger for my Grand Daughter's room. As of Sunday she has a new little Sister and will soon be moving into a big girl's room.
Hoping this makes the transition a little smoother for her.

Now this was really a different type of Challenge and I recommend that everyone should give this a try! It will really make you look at your photos in a whole new light.
First take a photo

Next create a sketch based on your photograph.

Then Create a layout based on your sketch! Wonderful way to create those layouts when you are feeling a little stuck for inspiration.
Last , but not the least A layout created from the August One Hour Sketch Challenge. Love this monthly challenge...though my Craft room always needs a major cleanup when I am done.

That's it for now, will be back soon! I hope!
Take care :)

Spring is in the Air

Finally the sun has been shining the temperature rising and the snow melting.
Spring is in the air!
Cleaning up the yard and raking out the flower beds have been the priority for the last week.

While waiting for the snow to melt I have been working on a few crafty and scrapbook projects in my free time.

Something new for me has been ATC cards.
I never real understood what is the purpose of an ATC card besides a way of introducing yourself in Craft and Art circles.

I discovered they are a fun way to mix and try out different techniques on a smaller scale.

My first ATC (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) I was really pleased with until after it's completion.

I discovered that I should have done a little googling to discover the ins and outs of ATC's.
First mistake I left out all designer information!
2ND mistake ...I misquoted the quote!!
3rd mistake I submitted it into a challenge!!!!!
So for all those who are interested in trying an ATC for the first time here is a link
explaining the basic rules of ATC.

All in all I am happy again, by slapping a magnet to the back, I have redeemed myself by turning my mistakes into a refrigerator magnet!!

Vintage ATC #1 "Dancer"

This next ATC was created for a RAK Challenge posted on the "Sisterhood of Scrap".

With a little more of an understanding on ATCs and feeling a little more confident .This little project came together without a hitch!
Using free vintage images from the Graphics Fairy (link in the right hand sidebar).

Vintage ATC #2 "Secret Garden".

I discovered they really are fun to create. If nothing else they can come in handy as a visual reference for different techniques.
They are also a great way to fill the need to create when the desire hits you but your time is limited.
They can be as simple or complex as you would like, no wrong or right...just a few simple rules to follow.

I also managed to complete 5 new Scrapbook layouts during the Winter Olympics
by participating in the "Olympic Crop" that was hosted by the "Sisterhood of Scrap".
Great fun to watch the Olympics while having your own challenges to complete.
If you would like to check them out they may be found here.

If you are in the mood for a Challenge all March Challenges have been posted for the "Sisterhood of Scrap" links may be found here.

Also tomorrow the Sisters will be hosting their One Hour sketch Challenge .
Beginning at 7:00 pm EST you will have until 8:00 pm to complete and post on the forum by 8:20 pm. Great fun and a real challenge!!!
Also you have a chance at a wonderful and generous prize!

Don't forget to stop by Create It-Green Blog on March 15Th for the design Team Reveal. You will find many ways to recycle ,up cycle and refurbish everyday items into your creative process.

Thanks for stopping by :)
